Tower cranes looming over large construction sites dot the skyline of Portland, but there are a multitude of renovation projects scattered throughout the area. The 91视频 has been focusing on some of these smaller and less heralded projects and will continue to spotlight them every Wednesday. The area under the west end of the Burnside Bridge is being revitalized. A former boarded-up space along the MAX tracks is being renovated to become retail space. Also, lighting under the bridge is being improved and the stairs to the upper deck of the bridge are being upgraded. The work is being performed by general contractor Cedar Mill Construction Company with design work by TVA Architects and landscape design by Walker Macy. Work should be completed in early summer.

A new deli is going in on the ground floor of Oregon City鈥檚 Caufield Building, the oldest commercial building in Oregon. Built in 1848, the historic building at the corner of Main Street and Eighth Street has undergone an extensive renovation to make way for the 1,800-square-foot Caufield House deli. The building鈥檚 owner, Ryan Smith, is the general contractor, and Winstead & Associates is the architect for the renovation.

A vacant ground-level storefront at the corner of Southwest Alder Street and Third Avenue is being turned into an America鈥檚 Best Contacts & Eyeglasses store. When completed in mid-summer, the 3,674-square-foot space will feature a showroom, examination areas and doctors鈥� offices. The renovation is being done by general contractor Cedarlake Companies Inc. of Vancouver, Wash., from a design by The Lawrence Group Architects of St. Louis.
