Located at the west end of the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis, the university’s Radiation Center Building looks like surrounding buildings, with one difference – it houses a nuclear reactor. The reactor is used for research such as neutron activation analysis, neutron depth profiling for hydrogen storage radio tracer techniques, medical isotope development and production, geological age dating, neutron radiography, thermal hydraulics of nuclear steam systems, radiation sterilization, radiation dosimeter testing and radiochemical methodologies.
The project consists of the addition of a 1,725-square-foot-high bay lab facility and associated site improvements, which will be constructed as an addition to the existing building.
Exterior walls will be concrete masonry with cement plaster exterior finish. The roof construction will be thermoplastic membrane roofing over insulation on steel deck and steel joist structure. Interior work includes, but is not limited to, new partition walls with gypsum board finish.
A mandatory examination of the site and conditions will be made at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009.
