Oregon could receive up to 1,000 Nissan electric vehicles and 2,500 charging stations soon after being chosen as a test market for a study on electric vehicles by the Electric Transportation Engineering Corp.

eTec recently received $99.8 million in federal funding to study electric vehicle usage; the study will guide national standards for electric vehicle adoption in the future.

Depending on negotiations, Oregon could receive up to 1,000 new Nissan EVs and 2,500 charging stations, which would be installed at the businesses and homes of people who purchase the vehicles. The first round of test vehicles will initially be distributed in the Portland-metro area, though there could be future testing performed in Eugene, Salem and Corvallis.

In addition, several Oregon companies will receive funding for developing electric vehicle and battery technology, including Johnson Controls Inc. of Lebanon, EnerG2 Inc. of Albany, and Casacade Sierra Solutions of Coburg.
