Gilbert Heights Park in Southeast Portland is in the middle of undergoing a complete renovation. The two-city-block space will have a new community garden area with raised beds, a potting area and neighborhood plots. When the project is completed in mid-fall, the park also will have a new ball field with dugouts and bleachers, a soccer field, paved walking paths, tables and benches. General contractor Silco Commercial Construction is in charge of the project which was designed by Murase Associates.

Dave Taylor, apprentice painter with Siegner and Co., paints one of the canopies on Block 1 of the Brewery Blocks in Portland’s Pearl District. The steel canopies on the building are being coated with high-performance, low-VOC acrylic paint that can withstand heat from the sun. A Siegner crew has been painting the entire building for the past week, and should be finished in about another week.

Portland Fire and Rescue’s Station One, built in 1950, is nearing the end of a major renovation. The 54,000-square-foot brick building is getting an extensive seismic upgrade and a complete interior remodel with new mechanical and electrical systems and finishes. When work is completed in the fall, the building will house fire crews, equipment and administrative offices. Skyward Construction is the general contractor and Peck Smiley Ettlin Architects is the designer of the project for the city of Portland.
