The Portland State Business Accelerator is a business incubator and accelerator for high-technology start-ups. Portland State University sponsors it as an economic development effort and a means of providing a living laboratory for faculty and students who want to work with entrepreneurial start-ups. Low-cost space is provided for up to 25 companies ranging from one-person to 30-person operations. Start-up companies receive business assistance from community partners as well as university support such as MBA project teams. The focus primarily is on the industry clusters of green tech and sustainability, information technology and software, and biotech/bioscience.

Companies can apply for and lease affordable office and/or lab space with flexible lease terms. They also can benefit from a range of no-cost support services designed to help speed each company’s time to market. As a result of cost controls and business development support, participating companies have a high probability of success. To date, 84 percent of companies have been successful, compared to typical success rates of 20 to 40 percent.

This project consists of tenant improvements of approximately 2,610 square feet, and includes a central wet lab with a bioscience safety Level II fume hood and four offices for companies surrounding the central lab. There is a contingency for expanding the lab by two more offices if construction costs are within the expected budget.

A mandatory pre-bid conference will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 2 at the PSU Wet Lab, 2828 S.W. Corbett St. in Portland. The project will be awarded no later than Feb. 11, and the deadline for completion is June 1.
