In July 2009, the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board approved grants for projects across the state to build parks and trails, and protect disappearing farmland and wildlife habitat. The state funding board approved grants for 106 projects in 28 of the state’s 39 counties. The Tacoma Metropolitan Park District received money for the Children’s Nature Exploration Area at the Tacoma Nature Center.
The project consists of the construction of exploration and play features, including a flexibly-lined shallow and naturalistic water feature; custom, artist-quality shotcrete work; prefabricated play elements; play surfacing; crushed rock paving; planting; lawn and meadow installation; rain gardens; irrigation; water service; electrical service; fencing; site furnishing; earthwork; parking area curbing, paving and striping, and other work.
A non-mandatory pre-bid conference will be held on Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler St. in Tacoma, Wash. Bidders are encouraged to visit the site prior to the pre-bid conference.
The base bid estimate range is $500,000 to $600,000. Time of completion is 120 calendar days.
