During his State of the City address today at the Governor Hotel, Mayor announced the formation of a $33 million sustainable development fund to encourage growth of clean technology in Portland.

In a speech that ran the gamut from education and job growth to city projects such as the Oregon Sustainability Center, Adams put an emphasis on job creation through encouraging growth of sustainable businesses. The city has also dedicated a half of a million dollars to a Portland Small Business Seed Fund, and Adams encouraged local banks to match the city’s contribution.

“We are an emerging leader in clean technology in all industries,” Adams said. “We should be exporting all of these goods and services around the globe.”

Adams also proposed that $16 million be put into a sidewalk development fund to address a lack of sidewalks in areas like East Portland.
