The soccer teams will have new grass to play on after a crew from Bernhardt Golf finishes its work. Merlo Field, on the university’s campus, is getting 86,000 square feet of new perennial rye grass. A strain of native bluegrass not suited for sports can slowly overtake playing fields in the Pacific Northwest. New rye grass sod often is put in every dozen years or so. Bernhardt Golf is the general contractor for the university’s project.
