A certified lead-based paint renovation contractor license is required to work on child-occupied facilities and on any structures built before 1978. A license is $50 and is available from the Construction Contractors Board. The license must be renewed annually, which also costs $50.

To qualify as a certified lead-based paint renovation contractor, one must:

• Be a construction contractor licensed by the CCB,
• Submit an application form,
• Pay an application fee, and
• Have at least one owner or employee who holds a course completion certificate from an accredited renovation, repair and painting (RRP) training provider.

The EPA, Oregon Home Builders Association, Portland Home Builders Association, Oregon Remodelers Association, Painting and Decorating Contractors of America and Western Regional Lead Training Center all offer RRP training courses.
