Since 2008, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has acquired three parcels of land – totaling 274.43 acres – on or near Beaver Creek in Lincoln County. Combined, these are classified as the Beaver Creek State Natural Area.

A state natural area is managed as a place of important natural resources, and in which development will be restricted to trails and interpretive or educational facilities. Initially, the OPRD is focusing on improving site access and performing site preparation at one of the parcels, a 25-acre property.

The OPRD recently received a conditional use permit from Lincoln County to construct a parking lot, expand a driveway to two lanes, install a vault toilet, construct a trailhead for future trails, and construct an RV host site. The house that is located on the property will be converted to a welcome center and an interpretive kiosk with interpretive panels on the viewing deck overlooking the marsh. Seven trailhead panels will welcome and educate visitors, and offer interpretation of the natural area.

All of the improvements must be completed before the grand opening date in early October.
