Bid Date/Time: June 30, 2010, 2 p.m.

As a result of Step One of the Oregon Zoo Veterinary Medical Center project, six eight general contractors were pre-qualified to bid on Step Two by demonstrating their experience in animal hospitals, specialized construction or related experiences.

Step Two consists of the construction of an approximately 15,500-square-foot concrete, wood and steel facility. Work includes removal of selected trees, demolition of the existing Quarantine Building, preparation of the site, utilities, paving, retaining walls and shoring, including soil-nail walls. Bid items also include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, medical equipment installation, animal caging, landscape and irrigation, including E zone mitigation planting. LEED silver-certification documentation is required.

The new medical center will be larger than the current one, and will include up-to-date equipment and will improve the safety and comfort of the animals. Animal health and safety is a top priority at the zoo, and the completion of the new medical center will help accomplish that goal.
