Eugene-based SeQuential-Pacific Biodiesel will reduce the retail price for B99 biodiesel to $2.99 per gallon through Aug. 15 to help raise awareness for local biodiesel production. B99 combines 99 percent biodiesel with 1 percent traditional diesel fuel.

According to Gavin Carpenter, regional sales manager with SeQuential, many biodiesel producers have been suffering in recent months after a federal tax credit for biodiesel production expired in December. The credit provided a one dollar tax credit for every gallon of biodiesel produced. The federal government has yet to take action to reinstate the credit, Carpenter said.

“It’s been a difficult year,” Carpenter said. “The expiration of the biodiesel blenders tax credit has shut down about 50 percent of the nation’s biodiesel production. We’re fortunate in Oregon to have a renewable fuel standard.”

SeQuential-Pacific is Oregon’s largest biodiesel facility, generating 5 million gallons per year. The primary feedstock for SeQuential’s biodiesel is used cooking oil supplied by Kettle Foods, Burgerville and other restaurants throughout the Northwest.

The discounted biodiesel will be available at fuel stations owned by Leather Fuels, Star Oilco and Powell Distributing.
