The original, three-story Josephine County Courthouse, built in 1915, stood alone until 1974, when north and south wings and the Justice Building were added to it. The 84,000-square-foot main courthouse facility houses much of the county’s administrative personnel, and the circuit court occupies approximately 30 percent of the space.

As a result of an assessment of court facilities completed in 2008, the Oregon Legislature authorized the sale of lottery bonds to pay for projects identified to upgrade and enhance several of the state’s court facilities. The Josephine County Court Facilities Improvements project encompasses upgrades and enhancements to two connected facilities: the main Josephine County Courthouse and Justice Building, as well as a third structure known as the Juvenile Justice Building.

The project requires professional services of an architectural and engineering firm for the following: fire suppression and alarming, upgrades to court-related parking areas, security enhancements and court-related audio-visual communications and recording systems.
