Whereas health effects from the outdoors have been widely studied, researchers at the University of Oregon hope discover health impacts from the indoor environment.

A new science of indoor ecology would identify how human health is affected by microorganisms inside buildings. Two biologists and a professor of architecture are leading the study.

Biologists Jessica Green and Brendan Bohannan and architecture professor G.Z. Brown will conduct the study at the Biology and the Built Environment Center in Eugene. The study is funded by a $1.8 million grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
