The McKenzie River (Goodpasture Road) Covered Bridge was constructed in 1938 at a cost of $13,154. It was named for Benjamin Franklin Goodpasture, a pioneer farmer who settled nearby. The bridge is 165 feet long and is the longest covered bridge in Oregon still used daily. It spans the McKenzie River two miles west of the community of Vida.

In 1987 a $750,000 renovation improved the bridge so that it could handle daily loads of log trucks. Work included the construction of a right-turn lane for vehicles exiting Highway 126 onto the bridge, and a concrete retaining wall along the north bank of the river.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is accepting bids for work to remove the bridge’s old roof and replace it with a new roof frame and wood shingle roofing. Work is estimated to cost between $100,000 and $500,000. The project is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 31.
