A crew from Staton Cos. is demolishing all but one of the buildings on the block bounded by Southwest Jackson and College streets and Fifth and Sixth avenues to make way for a new Portland State University residence hall. When completed in 2012, the 16-story College Station Apartments will have 282 units, classrooms and ground-level retail spaces. The project also calls for construction of a landscaped open plaza on the south side of the building. Walsh Construction Company is the general contractor and SERA Architects is the designer of the project.
