The scope of this project is to provide sprinkler coverage in the B-wing building at the University of Washington Health Sciences complex in Seattle.

The 111,000-square-foot building has eight floors, including a mechanical basement, a sub-basement and occupied residential quarters. Work includes abatement and reinsulation of piping fittings, sprinkler design and installation, and fire alarm design and installation. There is a small amount of architectural work for cutting, patching, painting and construction of a small stud wall.

The University of Washington is committed to providing the maximum practicable opportunity for participation by minority and women-owned businesses. Voluntary project goals have been established as 10 percent for minorities and 6 percent for women. However, no minimum level of MWBE participation shall be required as a condition for receiving an award, and bids will not be rejected or considered non-responsive if they do not include MWBE participation.

The work will be substantially completed by May 31, 2011. The engineer’s estimate for the project is $495,300.
