The first line on the new Portland Streetcar loop was tested successfully Friday as a streetcar rolled up Northwest 10th Avenue and crossed Lovejoy Street in the Pearl District. The Portland Streetcar Loop Project is creating a 3.3-mile extension of existing Portland Streetcar tracks that opened in July 2001. The project will extend tracks from the Pearl District, across the Broadway Bridge and up Weidler Street to Lloyd Center. Tracks also will be on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Grand Avenue. There will be 28 new streetcar stops on the extension. Inc. is the general contractor for the project.
