Fort Yamhill was constructed in 1856 at a site chosen because it overlooked the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation and relocated tribes. The fort was located west of the demarcation line that was drawn to separate the settlers and the American Indians. In 1866, the fort was abandoned and disassembled; however, the remains of one building, thought to be Lt. Sheridan’s quarters, remained at the site. It is being restored to its original configuration and condition for the Fort Yamhill State Heritage Area, which opened to the public in 2006.

The purpose of this project is to restore/replicate bay casement windows and wood trim as well as areas of the floor, and to reconstruct the front porch of the officer’s quarters. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; to be considered responsive, each bidder must provide a historic preservation contractor qualification submittal form.

Completion of the project is scheduled for March 31, 2011. The estimated cost for construction is from $25,000 to $35,000.
