A solar lab geared towards children will be installed at the German-American School of Portland this week.

The SolarLab will display museum-style exhibits that look at the history, application and future of solar power in the US. The project is a partnership between and the German-American School to bring awareness of solar to a younger generation.

“Some things are hands on so that kids can see how energy is made and what it feels like,” said Beth Willers, a spokesperson for the project. “Children will be able to take field trips to the lab, and teachers can incorporate solar into their lesson plans.”

The lab will be unveiled Thursday and will be open to all schools and youth groups in the Portland area. The German-American School of Portland is located at 3900 S.W. Murray Blvd., in Beaverton.
