This project consists of Bid Package No. 2 for the new Lewis Integrative Science Building at the University of Oregon in Eugene. The building will be constructed on the north side of the campus, north of Deschutes and Oregon halls and east of Streisinger Hall, along Franklin Boulevard.

The 100,000-square-foot science building will include labs, collaborative spaces and offices for approximately 45 faculty members. The building’s design is expected to enhance the university’s ability to bring together researchers from different fields to share instruments in one building. Space will be used for brain research, cognitive neuroscience, green materials science, nanotechnology research and solar energy technology. The building also will house a new, advanced MRI device.

Bid Package No. 2 consists of site concrete, landscaping, masonry, precast, metal fabrication, finish carpentry, laboratory specialties, sheet metal, curtain wall, glass, roofing, interior finishes, fire sprinklers, and other work.

The total building construction cost is approximately $65 million, and the target for occupancy is 2012. State bonds will provide approximately $30 million, the most ever invested by the state in an academic building at the University of Oregon. Donations and grants also are helping pay for the project, and fund-raising is continuing.
