The University of Washington is accepting bids for providing redundancy for the critical mechanical equipment serving the heating, cooling, and humidity requirements of the Henry Art Gallery Building.

Work includes replacing the existing water-cooled chiller with a water-cooled chiller, replacing the existing cooling tower with two of similar size, replacing the steam-to-steam humidifier heat exchanger with two of the same size, providing a sequence of operation for the control of the additional equipment, upgrading the building management system to allow for better alarm reporting and redundant equipment control, providing electrical power and lighting, removing and replacing landscape and irrigation system, and other work.

The Henry Art Gallery was founded in 1927 as Washington state’s first public art museum. The building was designed by Bebb and Gould. The art museum is named after a local businessman, Horace C. Henry, who donated money and a collection of 19th century and early 20th century paintings to start the gallery.

In 1997 the building was expanded to 40,000 square feet and included the addition of a 154-seat auditorium, a multimedia gallery, a cafe, and an outdoor court. Other upgrades included improved facilities for art handling, art storage and research.

Today, the Henry’s collection includes more than 20,000 objects, including photography and other multimedia pieces. The collection is available to the public for research or general public interest through online services or on-site by reservation.
