A 98-acre parcel in Gig Harbor, Wash., was homesteaded in 1884 by Henry Sehmel. The site was acquired in 2002 with money from Conservation Futures and private parties. In July 2008, construction of the park started. It will include a playground, artificial turf soccer/football fields, two softball fields, an amphitheater, a heritage garden, an open meadow, and 70 acres of natural area.

This project consists of the construction of a pavilion – a “barn-like” structure to host community and private events. The indoor portion will be 1,047 square feet and include three user rooms, a catering kitchen, and two individual toilet rooms. The covered outdoor area will be approximately 3,513 square feet, with exposed timber trusses and columns, and some clerestory dormers for added light.

The Alternate 1 portion of the bid includes the enclosure walls, windows and doors for the covered outdoor area. It also includes additional exit doors, two additional sliding barn doors, and one additional biparting barn door. These additions will allow the outdoor space to remain unheated, but will protect users from seasonal winds and weather.

The base bid estimate is from $525,000 to $625,000. The project is scheduled to be completed in 75 calendar days.
