Beaverton is Oregon’s fifth largest city, with approximately 87,000 residents. The city provides water to approximately 80 percent of the people living within the city limits. Neighboring water districts, which have service areas that overlap city limits, provide water to the remaining 20 percent.

The Sexton Mountain Pump Station has served as the backbone of Beaverton’s potable water system since it was constructed in 1993. The station is 390 feet above sea level and pumps water to the Cooper Mountain reservoir, which is 794 feet above sea level.

In 2009, the city completed an energy efficiency audit of its water facilities and received partial grant funding from the Energy Trust of Oregon for replacement of older, energy-inefficient pumps and motors at the Sexton Mountain Pump Station. Specifically, the Energy Trust of Oregon will partially reimburse the city for all work associated with the removal and replacement of pumps Nos. 2 and 3 with two new 250-horsepower pumps (including pump can and discharge piping modifications, etc.)

This project consists of a request for proposals to provide construction management/general contracting services in connection with the construction of public improvements at the Sexton Mountain Pump Station. Work involves modifying four existing vertical turbine pump cans, replacing up to four pumps and related piping and equipment, and other work.

Award of the contract is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2011.
