A new city hall has wrapped up construction in Independence, according to Jeff Myhre, president of Myhre Group Architects, who designed the project.

Independence Civic Center is a new 38,000-square-foot building that will house the city of Independence’s administrative offices, police department, building and planning offices and a community conference center. The building was developed by the city of Independence after its original developer and general contractor, Joseph Hughes Construction, was unable to finance the $8 million project.

Partially powered by 25 kilowatts of solar photovoltaic panels on the civic center’s roof, the building is laid out so all departments are situated around a multi-story lobby. The exterior is made from brick and concrete veneers, as well as metal panels around the windows. The project was constructed by Skanska USA of Beaverton.
