Souto de Moura’s work is noted for its use of natural materials and color. The stadium in Braga was described as “muscular” and “monumental” by the Pritzker jurors.

The jurors wrote in their citation that Souto de Moura’s work is “not obvious, frivolous or picturesque. It is imbued with intelligence and seriousness.”

Souto de Moura will receive a $100,000 grant with the prize.
