This project represents a comprehensive modernization of three elementary schools in Kennewick, Wash. The schools were built almost 30 years ago and need renovations to be brought up to current codes and standards to meet the district’s needs for enhanced functionality.

All three school buildings were designed in the early 1980s by the same firm (CKJT Architects of Kennewick) using the same design documents. Thus, because the existing buildings are nearly identical, this project will provide for the same renovations and modernizations for all three.

Work will include improved safety, acoustics, indoor air quality and energy performance, and involve ADA access and compliance. A small addition of 8,613 square feet will be built for each school to provide space needed for conferences, counseling, storage and support services. The addition will include a multipurpose room, and the building will feature a new security control system.

Notification of firms selected for the short list will be May 9 and notification of the selected general contractor/construction manager will be May 25.
