Mirror Pond in Bend was created in 1910 via construction of a hydroelectric dam near Newport Avenue. This dam is now owned and operated by Pacific Power and is an easily accessible recreational site in downtown.

During the last 100 years, Mirror Pond has provided the backdrop for Drake Park, Harmon Park and Mirror Pond Plaza, and served as the focal point for many community events and recreational activities. The pond also is used by the city in logos and promotional materials for the tourism industry.

This project consists of a request for proposals from consultants to provide an extensive feasibility study and community outreach process (鈥渁lternative analysis鈥�) to engage the community in the development, evaluation and selection of appropriate approaches for managing sediment in Mirror Pond.

The contract is scheduled to be awarded approximately Sept. 9. The first phase is set to be completed in March 2012.
