OSU鈥檚 Department of Recreational Sports sought the addition of restrooms, a classroom, and extra space for offices and storage. The building also benefits from improved reception areas and entry control, high-efficiency electrical fixtures, a skylight, and new windows where masonry openings had previously been blocked up. The resulting flood of natural light into the facility is one of the most noticeable changes, said Bill Callendar OSU鈥檚 association director of recreational sports

The project team from LCG Pence Construction separated all the new interior structures from the historic building shell in order to maintain the building鈥檚 historic authenticity.

鈥淭he space had to remain true to its history while also meeting modern needs,鈥 Callender said. 鈥淭he design was very sustainable for such an old space, so everyone had to work really well together.
