In December 2006, the Portland Community College Board of Directors passed the Sustainable Use of Resources Policy (Policy B-707). It states that 鈥淧CC is committed to becoming a leader in academic programs and operational practices that model the sustainable use of resources, so that the needs of current generations are met without impairing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.鈥�

After passage of B-707, PCC President Preston Pulliams joined hundreds of his peers in signing the American College and University Presidents鈥� Climate Commitment. It requires signatories to create guiding structures, complete a carbon emissions report and, within two years, develop a detailed institutional action plan for becoming carbon neutral.

The objective of this request for proposals is to provide Portland Community College with hazardous waste services on an 鈥渁s needed basis鈥� and as requested and authorized by the Risk Management Department. The contractor will be required to perform many tasks, such as inspections, the pickup and transfer of wastes, training, reporting, sampling and recycling, etc.

This RFP will be used to select a qualified vendor. The subsequent contract will be for three years, with two one-year extensions at the college鈥檚 option 鈥� a maximum term of five years. PCC consists of three comprehensive campuses and seven centers.

Notice of intent to award is scheduled for June 23, and the contract execution date is Aug. 1.
