The Blanchet House of Hospitality will officially launch its 鈥渒ick-off鈥漰arty today to celebrate the construction of a multimillion dollar facility to replace its current location.
About $12 million dollars will go into the new building, which will replace a 100-year-old building that has served the nonprofit in its mission to feed the needy. Since 1952, the Blanchet House has served more than 15 million meals and provided transitional housing for thousands of men who trade room and board for stints聽 serving meals.
The construction is expected to take 12 to 13 months.
The new construction project is made possible thanks to city grants as well as private donations. Notable contributions came from Scott Duffens, who donated $500,000; the Murdock Trust, which awarded $450,000; as well as the Maybelle Clark MacDonald Fund, which awarded $150,000.
