Construction isn’t scheduled to begin until May 2012, but you can learn more about the replacement of the Scholls Ferry Road bridge over Fanno Creek in Beaverton at an open house tomorrow.

The project is currently in the design phase and is expected to cost $5.9 million, funded by Washington County .

The bridge sits too low and is at risk of flooding, said Washington County project manager Matt Meier. “It would flood if the event were big enough,” he said. The bridge is also “past its lifetime,” he said, and has several structural components that need replacing.

What will the new bridge look like? The design is still being created, but the idea is to make the new bridge longer, wider and higher (above the flood plain). The bridge will include one northbound lane, one southbound lane, one center turning lane, bike lanes and sidewalks.
