Workers installing 12 huge frames for new light-rail bridge

Workers are installing 12 168-foot-long, 60-ton frames in the Willamette riverbed for a new bridge. The frames will be filled with concrete and will build the foundation for the west and east towers of the bridge that will carry Portland’s new light-rail line to Milwaukie. The line will be the MAX Orange Line.

Workers pictured include Dave Behrendt, left, an ironworker with Rebar International and a journeyman member of Local 86 in Tukwila, Wash., who was dispatched out of Local 29 in Portland; and Kyle Stewart, a journeyman with Local 29. They’re examining a rebar cage at the site of the project in Southwest Portland.
