Lots of eyes are fixed on North Portland.

The team behind the 72-unit mixed-use building that is going up near the corner of North Williams Avenue and North Fremont Street (The Albert) has drawn up plans for a second, similar project to be built just up the street, between Skidmore and Mason streets.

Jack Menashe proposes a four-story, 76,866-square-foot building will have 84 residential units, ground-floor retail space and on-site parking for 66 vehicles, some of which will be condensed by a machine that can stack cars. ‘ design will be up for a Type II design review in January.

The string of shops and restaurants along North Williams (, , the , etc.)  continue to bring tons of people to the area. While that may make the area prime for residential development, the traffic is sparking another about how to balance all of the pedestrians, bikes and vehicles vying for safe space on the road.

Some people weren’t crazy about the Albert coming into the neighborhood – too tall, wrong aesthetic, gentrification. But a ton of people want to live in this area. I wonder what the neighbors will say about the new project?
