The ground-breaking ceremony for the Sellwood Bridge replacement project was held today. Polly Trottenberg, Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation, presented Multnomah County Commissioner Deborah Kafoury with a check for $17.7 million, making official the awarding of TIGER III discretionary grant funds announced on advanced notice Dec. 12. The grant helped fill the budget gap that had plagued the project.
