Lindsey Bosse moved to Portland to go to Lewis & Clark College in 2009. From the very beginning, she said she’s had a connection with the city’s bridges.

“The Sellwood Bridge, for me, first and foremost was an escape. It was how I knew I could get away from the hill,鈥� Bosse said. She’d ride her bike down from the 鈥渉ill鈥� of the Lewis & Clark Campus in Southwest Portland, across the Sellwood Bridge and to the Springwater Corridor bike trail to downtown.

Last weekend, Bosse did what any good Portlander does when they love something: she got a tattoo. Days before the final permits were issued for the project to replace the Sellwood Bridge, Bosse got the bridge tattooed on her thigh.

Bosse already had a tattoo of her sister’s name, and says she is planning another tattoo of personal significance to her and her skiing hobby.

鈥淎ll of my tattoos have significance: they represent things that influence me or that I can’t live without. The Sellwood Bridge is definitely one of those,鈥� Bosse said. 鈥淚 really do love that bridge.鈥�

Eventually, Bosse said she plans to get tattoos of all of Portland’s bridges. She’s happy that she got one of the Sellwood Bridge before it’s torn down and replaced.

Bosse and her friends joke about the bridge, rolling down their windows when they drive across in a car “just in case” in might collapse, she said. But Bosse doesn’t really think it’s going to collapse, and has ridden her bike across it two to three times a day for over a year, she said.

鈥淚 understand why everyone is freaking out about it,鈥� Bosse said. 鈥淏ut I personally am very attached to it and don’t think it’s going to fall down.鈥�
