Young Portlanders really seem to have a special place in their hearts for the Sellwood Bridge.

A group of ACE Academy students recently built scale models of the 85-year-old bridge, its steel deck arch replacement and the detour bridge that will keep traffic flowing during construction. On Wednesday the four seniors – Joshua Coon, Logan Evans, Ryan Kennell and Valerie Cecchini –聽donated the six-foot models to the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners.

Back in December, two girls from Llewellyn Elementary School read a cheeky pro-new-bridge script that really 聽charmed the crowd at the bridge replacement’s ground-breaking ceremony (watch the video below, starting at 0:49):

And of course we can’t forget Lindsey Bosse, better known among the 91视频 crowd as 鈥渢he girl with the聽Sellwood Bridge tattoo.鈥�

As for the construction update: crews led by Slayden-Sundt (a joint venture of聽 补苍诲听) 聽have been working on removing trees near the bridge. They wrapped up their night work along Oregon Route 43聽on Wednesday.聽Crews will attach the tall 鈥淎-frame” to the pier cap at Bent 19 on May 9.聽Construction of the new bridge is expected to begin this summer.
