What I learned from Steve Jobs’ biography

I just had the pleasure listening to (As someone who works in the commercial business, it has become a necessity to do my 鈥渞eading鈥 in the car).

Steve Jobs

I have always been a fan of reading books about people whose lives and experiences are ones that I could never live. Jobs lived a lot of life in his short time with us. Whether you are a fan of Jobs or not, the one thing that you have to tip your hat to is that the man was a visionary who was not willing to settle for anything less than what he saw as perfection.

The people that worked with him and for him would tell you that he was not necessarily the聽epitome聽of the perfect human being. But they will tell you that he drove them further than they ever thought they could go. So how does all of this relate to the real estate industry in Portland, Oregon?

I am glad you asked. Whether you run a business that is still starting up or looking to grow, or are a property owner looking to get the highest value from your property, I believe it all starts with a clear vision of where you are going and, from there, depends on an ability to stay focused on that vision. I have met many people along the way willing to tell me how things can’t be done, but very few who are interested in looking for solutions. And, as a commercial property owner for many years in town, I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with thousands of business owners and tenants. Through this, I’ve seen many businesses get caught up in the day-to-day work of running a business.

My advice: Don’t be afraid to take some time out of your work week and聽work on your vision. It will pay huge dividends in the long run.
