A group supporting the November schools construction bond measure has released a video featuring state Rep. Jules Bailey, D-Portland, explaining why schools are a good investment. He uses a very appropriate prop – a whiteboard – to make his point.

The bond measure will ask voters for $482 million via property taxes that will go into repairing Portland public schools.

The money will go toward renovating Roosevelt, Franklin and Grant high schools and rebuilding Faubion K-8 in partnership with Concordia University. It would also improve safety and accessibility in at least 30 additional schools, including seismic upgrades, roof replacements and other learning and accessibility upgrades.

Where will the money come from? Taxpayers would pay an estimated $1.10/$1,000 of assessed value for eight years, with the rate reducing to $0.30/$1,000 paid over an additional 12 years.

The group, called , is made up parents, students, teachers, administrators and community members in support of the bond measure.
