Portions of Elizabeth Caruthers Park, which was completed in 2010 in Portland’s South Waterfront district, have been closed since mid-May for the repair of construction flaws. According to a release by Portland Parks & Recreation, defects with the boardwalk caused it to be less structurally sound and containing trip hazards, and concrete sidewalks were cracking and at risk of buckling over time. In addition, plants were failing due to an insufficient amount of topsoil and improperly prepared subsoils.

The repairs are being funded by a mediated settlement totaling $150,000 between general contractor Nutter Corporation ($90,000) and subcontractors Teufel Nursery, Inc. ($45,000) and Wolf Industries, Inc ($15,000). Work on the project is slated for completion in July.
