Taking design to the streets

We’ve got to hand it to Portland architects. They know how to throw a party that stops traffic …. literally.
Case in point: the kickoff party for the Portland Design Festival.
The party, hosted by the Center for Architecture, is the first in a two-week series of parties, photos exhibits and educational sessions dedicated to celebrating and exploring the many faces of design in the city … and beyond.
The free street party, which runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday in the 400 block of Northwest 11th Avenue, promises food, drink, signature cocktails and music by DJ Dirty Red. Those looking to give their dancing dogs a break will find a place to relax and crowd watch in a curb-side parking spot slated for conversion into a pop-up living room by 2 winner Robert Trempe.
