A new type of hotel, the Radisson RED, will anchor the future Broadway Tower here in Portland when it’s complete in a couple of years. The brand will debut its first hotel in Brussels, Belgium later this month.
Ben Gardeen, spokesman for the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, which owns Radisson Hotels, said the Radisson RED will occupy the first eight floors of the 19-story, mixed-used building at 1455 S.W. Broadway St.
The second Radisson RED will open in Minneapolis later this year, Gardeen said. Portland will be the third of the brand out of a total of 15 hotels being developed around the globe.
Each Radisson RED location will be different, Gardeen said, but all the hotels will allow keyless entry using smart phones or other digital devices. For those less digitally-inclined, hotel employees in the lobby will use laptops or tablets for guest check instead of a traditional check-in counter.
What sets each hotel apart is that each will focus on music and art from the local area in the two-story open lobby, according to Gardeen.
鈥淭he space will be multifunctional and will serve as an art gallery reflective of Portland,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he Radisson RED brand is about art and music and fashion, and obviously incorporates design. You’ll know you’re in Portland.鈥
The guest rooms will also reflect Portland, he said, as will food and beverage services in the brand’s bar, called OUIBAR, and a food outlet, spelled KTCHN but pronounced 鈥渒itchen.鈥
The Portland hotel will offer 180 guest rooms 鈥渢hat feature touches of Scandinavian design highlighted by鈥unctional furniture pieces like the picnic table that replaces the traditional desk鈥 according to a statement from Carlson Rezidor. The company has a total of 1,400 hotels in operation or under development in 115 countries.
