Johnny Metoyer earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree in engineering science from Vanderbilt University in 1999 and his master鈥檚 degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix in 2006. He joined CBRE|HEERY in 1999 and his responsibilities include managing staff and contractors and keeping the community informed about his public-sector projects. He also welcomes internal staff to tour his projects and shares lessons learned and the steps that lead to success.

During his 16 years at CBRE|HEERY, Metoyer鈥檚 projects have included serving as the construction manager for the fourth busiest port in the country for the U.S. General Services Administration Mariposa Land Port of Entry in Arizona. The 216,000-square-foot facility remained fully operational during the four-phase, $146 renovation and expansion project.

Metoyer recently served as the project manager for the modernization of Portland鈥檚 Franklin High School, which is 280,000 square feet. The $113 million modernization is a significant step forward in transforming Portland Public Schools鈥� facilities into next-generation learning environments. The learning spaces have been reconfigured and updated with a focus on indoor environmental quality, sustainability and historic preservation. The high school achieved LEED Gold certification and was awarded more than 15 design and construction industry awards.

When asked what he appreciates most about his work, he replied: 鈥淭he planning/coordination necessary to provide my clients with an end product that exceeds their expectations. The smile on the faces of end users when they walk into the completed building for the first time.鈥�

CBRE|HEERY participated in the 2018 CANstruction and Metoyer鈥檚 role was significant since the team chose to replicate the Franklin High School project with cans. The structure was named 鈥淪chool is NO TIME to be hungry,鈥� and it was awarded Best Meal by the organization. All cans from the structure were donated to the Oregon Food Bank for families in need.
