Jonathan Singer has experienced life as an attorney from nearly one end of the spectrum to the other. He earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Pomona College and his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 2010.
He then moved to Washington, D.C., to work for a large, international law firm, and his practice frequently involved working with the White House, Congress and federal investigatory agencies. His cases included congressional investigations, ethics cases, political law and litigation.
The fifth-generation Portlander said he enjoyed the work but, after three years and several international business trips, decided he needed to do something different. 鈥淚 knew I wanted to get home to Portland and I was getting a little burned out on the D.C. lifestyle,鈥 he said.
Singer joined Miller Nash鈥檚 litigation team in 2014 and credits Kieran Curley, the firm鈥檚 managing partner, with suggesting he join its real estate practice.
鈥淎lthough I had a strong interest in real estate and had a lot of friends and family members in the business, I hadn鈥檛 thought much about doing real estate work and, honestly, didn鈥檛 know what a business or real estate lawyer did,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 was lucky to have great mentors at Miller Nash and found pretty quickly that I was able to bring some new real estate clients to the firm.鈥
As a partner with the boutique firm Barg Singer, Singer鈥檚 work involves representing clients in the purchase, sale, financing and construction of properties ranging from a small, $300,000 retail building to a $22.5 million production facility. He said it鈥檚 exciting to be involved in deals with people who are shaping Portland鈥檚 skyline.
In his free time, Singer鈥檚 community service includes sitting on the boards of the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation, Mittleman Jewish Community Center and Portland Jewish Academy.
