Brothers Bob and Tom Walsh founded Walsh Construction Co. in 1961 with the overriding mission to enhance the lives of others through building community. Bob Forster joined in September of 1970 with a passion for construction and in developing high-quality, self-performed work. Over the years, WALSH has grown into something extraordinary, filled with individuals who are passionate about the community; working with mission-driven partners; creating healthy, durable and highly energy-efficient buildings; and having fun with one another.

Since its inception, WALSH has been a family of hardworking and community-minded builders committed to Building Smart. Most of the project managers began their careers with bags on and the primary leadership team has come up through the field. President, Matt Leeding, joined WALSH in 1980 as a project engineer after graduating from Oregon State University; Oregon General Manager, Ryan Wilde, came on board in 1988 as a laborer after completing college; and Washington General Manager, Elizabeth Rinehart, joined in 2005 as a project engineer. As leaders, they provide exceptional insight and experience on how to successfully build a variety of projects and how to directly support a wide variety of project teams.

WALSH is deeply committed to Building Green and was a crucial project partner on the Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center, which became the first restoration of an historic building to receive a LEED Gold rating. The commitment continues to this day with the current construction of the PAE Living Building, the city鈥檚 first and largest privately developed office building to be fully certified under the rigorous Living Building Challenge.

In its 60 years, WALSH has consistently been dedicated to Building Community. With a mission of 鈥淏uilding Communities, Empowering People,鈥� WALSH鈥檚 leaders strive to empower employees and clients alike. Employees have always exemplified the company鈥檚 value of generosity, volunteering their time, talents and treasures to serve unmet needs in the community. WALSH鈥檚 commitment to empowerment and diversity in construction is a continual, integral part of how they do business. To that point, more than 40 percent of WALSH鈥檚 staff are women and people of color, and that number continues to increase.

As it marks its 60th anniversary, Walsh Construction is celebrating the opening of its fourth office, located in Vancouver, Wash. WALSH has been deeply invested in the Vancouver area since their first senior housing project in 1980; they are thrilled to be deepening their roots and providing additional service and connection to their project partners and community in Vancouver. The company also has offices in Seattle and Tacoma, in addition to its Portland headquarters. Throughout the company鈥檚 history, WALSH has partnered with mission-driven clients to build affordable housing, supportive housing, healthcare and education projects throughout the Northwest; they鈥檙e looking forward to the next 60 years!
