The Rotary Youth Center at Morrison gives youth, families and therapists an expanded year-round space for treatment, training, physical education, recreation and group meetings.

The 4,100-square-foot building is based on Net Zero design and includes many elements that exemplify environmental stewardship, including an eco-roof, solar array, rainwater collection, and natural ventilation and daylighting.

Morrison wanted an area where children and their families could gather, reflect and connect with nature in a safe environment. The therapy garden features a large rear gathering patio, terraced gardens, a playing field and a picnic area. A series of pathways and stairs connect the spaces with a variety of seating opportunities for informal counseling and relaxing.

Local artist Dominic Sigari, also known as Calm, worked with some of the teenage clients to create a 鈥減ositivity mural.鈥� The teenagers drew something that represents growth and positivity to them, and Calm painted the mural entirely with spray cans.

City of Portland planning code required that new pedestrian walkways, landscaping at existing parking areas and a new waste enclosure be completed as part of the project. In addition, requirements for upgrading site driveway access and sidewalks at Sandy Boulevard were added to the scope of work.
