Location: EugeneWhen the historic Civic Stadium tragically burned down, the Eugene Civic Alliance procured the property and vowed to redevelop the site to provide a new sports and recreation complex for the community. That vow is becoming a reality through the new Eugene Civic Park & Kidsports Field House.
The new two-story, 40,000-square-foot field house features much-needed gym space for youth court sports and it also serves as the headquarters for the nonprofit Kidsports organization. Additionally, the complex includes a state-of-the-art turf sports field and two outdoor basketball courts.
Civic Park will host adult recreation leagues offering basketball, pickle ball, volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, and indoor/outdoor futsal. Civic Park also will be the new home field for Lane United FC soccer club beginning with the 2021-2022 season.
Inside the field house, the main lobby, gymnasium and Kidsports offices are suffused with natural light. Green accents include tinted glass units and brightly painted stairs. Another unique element is the Kidsport boardroom, which cantilevers and projects beyond the northwest corner of the otherwise prosaically rectilinear building.
The historic 10-acre lot required substantial site improvements to meet the goals of the Eugene Civic Alliance and the city’s requirements for a modern facility.
