The design goal for the Wells Fargo Center and Exchange Block renovation was to reestablish its grandeur and retool it to support modern workplace culture. The 2020 transformation was the first renovation opportunity that was not bank driven or owned, allowing the team to preserve historical characteristics while bringing it into the modern era.

User experience was at the forefront of the vision, vying for a space that promotes work-life balance and collaboration. The project took place over three phases. The first focused on renovation throughout the tower, the second included extensive work to the Exchange Block, and the third was a buildout of the daylight basement into a food hall.

One key design feature in the tower lobby was a large wood ceiling system and interior grand stair connecting the two lobbies. By connecting the lobbies, it opened up the pedestrian circulation around the tower’s base. The linear wood finish of the ceiling warms up the space, helps draw people into it, and supports the extensive amount of marble found throughout the interior.

The addition of nearly 15,000 square feet created a new lobby and social experience to the building while supporting pedestrian activity on Southwest Fourth Avenue.
