Location: Lake OswegoDomaine Serene Wine Lounge is a 5,000-square-foot restaurant and wine bar that tasked the design team with creating a wine-focused space while also blending aspects of food, music and education. The program includes a variety of experiences such as lounge groupings, open dining, a private dining room, and 60 climate-controlled private wine lockers that hold more than 2,800 bottles.
The central wine tower is the largest climate-controlled single tower in Oregon and creates an important centerpiece for the space. The 1,500-square-foot commercial kitchen, designed by a chef, is centrally located. A private room serves as education space for a sommelier to conduct tastings or classes in addition to a central wine bar for guests to huddle around and interact with staff. A central stage for music is viewable throughout the space and special attention was given to acoustics.
Maximizing bottle storage was a challenge since there are a large range of bottle shapes and sizes. The team found the wine locker capacity could increase by about 30 percent by tweaking dimensions and stacking the bottles in a nested fashion.
