Nick Sauvie
executive director of ROSE Community Development
A real estate developer and community advocate for nearly 30 years, Nick Sauvie is a leader in implementing thoughtful change in Southeast Portland neighborhoods. He has developed more than 500 homes for people experiencing houselessness and low-income families, with a focus on equitable housing.

Before becoming a community advocate, Sauvie was a community organizer for the Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Coalition and then began leading the coalition鈥檚 neighborhood improvement projects.

ROSE Community Development was founded in 1992 to help revitalize outer Southeast Portland by building and managing affordable homes and creating better economic opportunities. ROSE also offers internal resident services to provide access to resources and additional support. Sauvie and his team carry out this work with a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Sauvie is involved in community groups such as Housing Oregon, the Welcome Home Coalition and East Portland Action Plan. He spearheaded the Baby Booster Initiative based on a study that showed parents鈥� chronic stress negatively affects health outcomes for children. One way to counter that is by increasing access to affordable housing and getting families off the street.

ROSE partnered with a core group of culturally specific social service agencies to identify women who are pregnant or have children under 2 who are in need of affordable housing, and provide them with education around ROSE鈥檚 affordable housing and services. The program has successfully housed many mothers and their children.

鈥淣ick listens to the needs of his community, his employees, board members and residents,鈥� said Bree Guardado, ROSE鈥檚 asset manager. 鈥淗e inspires others to make the change that is needed to bring resources to communities like Southeast Portland. He has been an icon for change for the past 29 years, and his name will carry on as families continue to be housed for years and years to come.鈥�
